ATTENTION ALL 9th, 10th, and 11th graders!! Registration for PSAT will open in Attendance on Tuesday, Aug. 22 and end Friday, Sept. 15. The cost is $16 and checks can be made payable to CMS.  The PSAT is the qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship for 11th graders and is great practice for 9th and 10th graders. You can find PSAT practice resources at collegeboard.org. The test will be administered on Oct. 11. Please see Guidance or Attendance for questions.

 Applications for the National Spanish Honor Society are now available! Pick one up in Ms. Pinson's room. Candidates need to be in 10th grade or higher, Spanish 3 or higher, maintained an A in all Spanish classes, and will need to turn in the completed application with dues during the first meeting next Wednesday, August 30th. There is a portion that needs to be verified by the guidance department, so please give yourself time to complete the application. See Ms P for questions. 

 Attentions High Schoolers:

 Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn is hosting a Military Service Academy Day. Representatives from all Military Academies will be at Franklin High School Sat., Aug. 26 from 10:00 a.m.-11:30 a.m. to discuss their academies and answer any questions families have about the school or application process. (Registration begins at 9:30).  Seniors!

 To help you and your parents navigate through the milestone of your final year at Central, we are having a Senior Class Parent Meeting on Tuesday, August 29 at 6:00 pm.  The meeting will be in the auditorium.  We will provide information on ordering the items you will need for graduation, deadlines for submitting information, the Central Magnet Diploma of Merit, graduating with Honors and Distinction, the Senior Banquet, and more.  We hope that you will be able to join us.  If you have any questions, please email or see Ms. Hines. 

"Juniors and Seniors interested in social sciences: We are starting a Rho Kappa chapter here at Central Magnet.  This is a National Social Studies Honor Society.  You must have a 3.0 in all social studies classes that you have taken as well as an overall 3.0 average.  Rho Kappa will meet in Dr. Edge’s room, 204, during club time on “B” rotations and on Wednesday mornings bi-weekly from 7:15-7:55.  This society will also participate in National History Day." 

The University of Alabama at Hunstville, Belmont, and Rhodes College will all have representatives on hand for College Corner this Tuesday, Aug. 29 from 12:30-1:30. Stop by and visit them!

 

 

Are you interested in joining the archery team? If so, the archery team is open to all middle school and high school students.  The will be a mandatory parent meeting on Monday, August 28th at 5:30 in the cafeteria.  All returning archery parents and any parent of those interested in archery should attend this meeting.  Please contact Coach Bonanno if you have questions.

 

The volleyball teams will be hosting a middle school dance Friday September 1st from 6-8pm

Tickets will be available to purchase Monday 8/28-Friday 9/1 in the cafeteria during lunch

Ticket cost is $5.00

 

The Central Magnet boys golf team defeated the Smyrna Bulldogs yesterday with their best team score of the year, 321-387. Steven Chan led all golfers again with a 79, while Birthday boy John David Blankenship shot an 80. Both Lane Counts and Austin Wright shot an 81, and Warren Smith shot an 89. The boys improve to 2-1 in district play, while our girls remain unbeaten. 

Central takes on the Blackman Blaze Tuesday at Champions Run. 

 

The high school soccer team opened up district play with a 0-0 draw against Spring Hill.  Ella Chesney and Chole Beauchene played well in goal to maintain the clean sheet.

 

The Middle School Lady Tigers soccer team played a great game but lost to Oakland 3 to 1.  Ashleigh Clark scored the goal while Maddie Degnam had 7 saves. The next game is Tuesday here against Siegel.
