Congratulations CMS Archery

What an incredible year CMS Archery has had and what a way to keep it going.  The MS Archery Team successfully defended our State Championship to become the 2016 Tennessee State Archery Champions.  The MS team has placed first place in all 7 tournaments this year including the County Championship and the State Championship Tournaments. The HS Archery Team beat out the two time defending champion White County HS to win our first Tennessee State Archery Champions.  The HS team has placed first in 5 of the 7 tournaments and has finished no lower than second, with wins in both the County Championship and the State Championship.  In three years, CMS has gone from finishing outside the top three at the State Tournament to becoming the top school in the state in two divisions.

Not only have we been great as a team, but we have some excellent individual archers as well.   For the MS team, we have had multiple female archers step up and place in each and every tournament, but the State Tournament is different.  CMS had two young ladies place in the top 5 in the State this year.  Congratulations to Sophia Jaramillo for placing 5th in the State and to Lynn Upchurch for being the top MS Female archer in the state in her very first year of competition. For the HS team, we have had male and female archers place in every tournament, but placing at state is different.  Alison Blanton placed 3rd for her second consecutive Top 5 finish.  Craig Bowen is once again the first place HS male and Overall Top Archer in the State.  Unlike last year, Craig had to win this honor by shooting in a shoot off. Craig and another archer (who was from Oakland HS), in front of a thousand plus spectators, shot 5 arrows from 15 meters to determine a winner.  After this round, both archers were still tied, so a one arrow shoot off, with the closest arrow to the center wins, awaited these archers.  Both archers put their arrows in the gold, but one archer had shoot a nine while the other had shot a ten. Craig had prevailed to defend his title of Top Male archer in the State in a pressure packed tie breaker.
