Thank you so much for an incredible first week! I can tell we are going to have a really exciting group of musicians in each of my classes this year. This week, we spent a lot of time with activities designed to get us out of our shell - all of them led to a lot of laughs, and the development of a lot of performing and communication skills!
Highlights include creating the Nativity Scene without talking in 5 seconds, doing the same task with a rendition of Picasso's famous painting "La Guernica," and the "Wah" game (ask your student!)
For the weekend, your students are assigned practice work on the introductory music notation skills we are building. This notation system is used by almost every Western instrument as well as the voice in Western singing. I have attached a copy of the sheet below in case your student has lost it, forgotten it, or somehow did not receive one. Also, if your student has any questions, have them check the Resources page for MusictTheory.net, which will serve as a good support for them. They are also welcome to e-mail me with any questions. Thank you for sharing your student with me this week! I am looking forward to a great year with them!
Welcome to Central Magnet Chorus and Piano!
Every year presents new and exciting opportunities for your students to grow, and I am so fired up that your students have chosen a music class as part of their Central Magnet experience. It is my firm belief that the arts hold a vital place in the education of our children, teaching them a unique combination of values in a variety of unique and inspiring forms.
I cannot wait to share many wonderful musical and life experiences with your students this year! Thank you for sharing them with me and giving them this incredible opportunity to grow in their knowledge of music, "the epitome of human expression."
If you ever have any questions, comments, or concerns, my door is always open to you! I strongly believe that the teacher-parent relationship is vital to the success of the students, teachers, and the school. Should you need ANYTHING please do not hesitate to reach me by e-mail at email@example.com
or by phone (before or after school) at 615-904-6789, ext. 23395.
Again, thank you for sharing your children with the Music Department at Central Magnet. It is an honor to have this opportunity to serve our community and its students through music education!
PS: Here is the video I showed all of my classes at our orientation meetings. I hope it spoke to you as it does to me about the value of what the arts and humanities are doing for your students and their future!
