2021-2022 National English Honor Society Application

Current sophomores and juniors can now apply to join National English Honor Society for next year.
Look over the application and submit once you have all materials gathered no later than the end of the school day on Wednesday, May 5th.
New members will be eligible to run for officer positions before the end of the school year. Details will be included in acceptance letters.

2021 Writing Lab Application

Current sophomores and juniors may apply to be a tutor in the writing lab for the 2021-2022 school year between now and February 12th.
You can pick up an application from Mrs. Esberger or print one off here.
The application includes both the teacher recommendation and student letter of interest.

January 5-8

January 5-8 are asynchronous learning days. I will be posting short assignments each day on our Teams channel. Please make sure to log in every day and complete the work listed.
If you have questions, feel free to reach out via email or on Teams.

November 30 Distance Day

All assignments for Monday, November 30th are available on our class Teams pages. Please go there to see what you need to do before returning to school December 1/2.

AP Test Registration

Registration for AP tests ends this Friday, October 30th
If you submit your registration after this deadline, there is a $40 fee.
Also, central office has stated that students who do not register will not receive the 5 AP points in quarters 3 and 4.

National English Honor Society

Applications are open for National English Honor Society to current juniors and seniors.
Please note, you may want to look over the application before starting to fill it out. There is a written section and a place to attach a recommendation email from a peer.

Thinking and Speech

"Thought is restructured as it is transformed into speech. It is not expressed but completed in the word" (Vygotsky, 1987, p. 251).

"Language is the most pervasive and powerful artifact that humans possess to mediate their connection to the world, to each other, and to themselves" (Lantolf and Thorne, 2007, p. 201).

When we discussed goals recently, I mentioned the importance of annotating while you read. I started my first doctoral class this weekend and wanted you all to see that Iā€™m practicing what I preach!

August 13/14

There were some connectivity issues with Kiddom/Clever this morning. We have been told that these had to do with many students logging in for the first time at once. If you can, please login to Clever and Kiddom before school on Friday if you haven't logged in before. That should help with overload.
Just in case, I am going to post videos and links from today. That way, you should have everything you need. I also sent emails via Skyward and linked to materials on Clever and Kiddom. You can access today's power point in the post below.
Class syllabi are also on this page on the right hand side underneath my links.
If you received a textbook, please fill this out asap.
Here is a link to the videos we were supposed to watch in first today. Watch only videos posted on the 12th and 13th.
Videos are now up on Kiddom.

Course Postings

This year, instead of updating my website with daily assignments, I will be using the Kiddom app, which is available via the Clever Portal.
On Kiddom, I will post daily updates and resources, including course videos.
On Clever, there are links to daily Zoom meetings for each class for distance learners. I will post a video of each type of class I teach within a day of making the video.
Zoom meetings will also be available for conferencing during my 5th period study hall and 8th period. Even if you are not distance learning, I recommend downloading the Zoom app to your device for conferences or the possibility of building closures or individual quarantines.
From my Clever page, you will also see links to Teams, the online textbook for 10th grade, and turnitin.com.
This year, I will also be using Remind. Text to 81010.
