Yearbook/Textbooks and AP Test

AP students, your yearbook pick-up/textbook drop-off day is May 20th. This happens to be the same day as our AP test.

Here are the times:

May 20
Juniors (High School side) & 8th grade (Middle School Drop off)

A-D
9 - 10
E-J
10-11
K-O
11-12
P-T
12-1
U-Z
1-2

You need to be logged in and completely ready to take our test by 12:30, so I would want to have eaten lunch, gone to the restroom, collected all my materials, and have a quiet, comfortable space no later than 12:15. This means that last names K-Z may want to wait until the next day to do pick-up/drop-off. This has been approved by administration. You are welcome to come by the school on May 21st instead.

AP Test Updates

AP students, I'm sharing below LOTS of updates I received from AP today. Please look through these!

New Resources

2020 AP Testing Guide (.pdf/10.9 MB): The guide, designed for educators to walk their students through test day, provides information about:

The AP Exam e-ticket

Five steps to take before test day

Understanding the test day experience

Exam scores, credit, and placement

2020 AP Exam Day Checklist (.pdf/526 KB): Teachers should have their students complete this checklist for each exam they take and keep it next to them while testing.

Explainer Videos: New videos are available to give students quick, easily accessible information about their test day experience, what they need to do to prepare, exam security, and more. Explore the playlist.

AP Exam Demo (available May 4): AP students should use the clickable exam demo to practice the different ways to submit their exam responses. The demo will help students confirm that their testing device will be able to access and run the online exam. If they can’t access the demo, the final slide of the Testing Guide can help them troubleshoot. The sample content in the demo will be the same for all users and isn't a practice exam. We’ll send educators and students an email to remind them when the demo is available. Please encourage your students to take this important preparation step.

Online AP Classes and Review Sessions prep week: The week before exams, online AP classes will focus on the exam day experience and sample exam questions.

Updated AP Exam Schedule!

AP Language, our test will take place Wednesday, May 20th at 1 pm. The test will be 45 minutes and consist of a rhetorical analysis essay administered online. You will have the option to hand-write your essay and upload a picture of it or type your essay. College Board says they will give out tutorials of the testing platform later in April. Essays will be scored on the 6-point rubric we used this year - no word yet on exactly how that will translate into the 5-point AP score.  Essays will be scored twice by two different readers. All exams are open-note.

Suggestions

Until we get things up and running on Teams, I'm going to post suggestions for reading/listening from time to time.

If you've been confused by your own emotions over the last couple of weeks, as I have, you may find this article helpful: "That Discomfort You're Feeling is Grief."

One of my favorite podcasts is Invisibilia, and their most recent episode really speaks to the time we're in right now: here is a link to the episode.. The episode is titled "An Unlikely Superpower" if you just want to get it on your phone. I also really liked the first episode of the season, "Two Heartbeats a Minute."

Miss you!
