welcome to Michigan's AP Physics classroom thank you for watching this video to learn more about what's going to be happening this year in AP Physics B videos for any of the classes AP Physics 1 AP Physics C magnetism or physics C electricity and magnetism will it be about me I was born and raised here in Murfreesboro went to Northfield Elementary Central Middle when it was middle school and Oakland High School and then went to Tennessee Tech for a graduate also met my wife there and we were married and later we've had our we have three children that's a picture of them there I come from a family of teachers my mother taught in Murfreesboro City Schools Creeks of he had mrs. Kenny back in first grade or maybe kindergarten that was my mom this is not my first teaching position I thought I was there from 2007 to 2016 2016 we move back to Murfreesboro or out of toddler throw the County Schools mostly math since 2016 and then I'm part of the Community member at Redeemer Church Murfreesboro and then we're also serve as it I'll let you know a little bit about my philosophy of education I believe that parents are primary Educators and that my role is to support you and I specifically help you out and teaching physics to you and I hope that this year we can work together for your child so that said if you need to contact me or I would encourage you to contact me with any concerns or questions that you have and it's my email address right there can you J at rcschools are you can reach me by phone using that phone over there extension 23334 email is probably a little quicker for me to respond but if you do I will try to get back to you so that your child is enrolled in AP Physics I would encourage you to know all the different ones even if your child is not in AP Physics 1 just so they know the difference is the AP Physics 1 is an algebra base physics class the topics include motion forces energy momentum rotation rotation in simple isolations we go look at more in depth but one way that is different is that it's more conceptual and there's more riding in AP Physics 1 than there is AP Physics C if you're planning on going to the medical field or any non science or not engineering Majors AP Physics 1 correlate with what you taking College from taking AP Physics C that they're calculus calculus based physics classes here in mechanics that's going to be calculus face we're going to talk about motion forces energy and I'm rotation in simplest Solutions a very similar AP Physics 1 it's just going to be a Oculus face more math heavy and then AP Physics C NM which stands for electricity and magnetism that's calculus base also but the topics are different you see here were looking more at electricity and magnetism and electromagnetism later on the read those topics there just let you know about expectations for homework I'm going to be utilizing their method which and also some aspects of the flipped classroom which if you haven't had that before that there's going to be reading note and note-taking at home and also the videos that example problems for homework I won't be every single night but that's going to be a majority of your homework and the rationale behind that is that it's easier the lower level thinking skills or taking notes reading and billing the conceptual understanding and then what that Isis freeze up in class to do challenging work I just practice problems but also labs and things that require more more in-depth thinking so that way you're not just doing that at home by yourself but able to utilize your classmates and then he has a teacher in that endeavor just so you don't worry we will still review Concepts in class and so it is important that as you read or if you watch a video if there are questions that's that's okay and that's that's a good starting point when we come back together of questions that you have so and it don't feel like you were having to learn the material you're just getting your start bring up your learning process at home TimeWise that should be about 45 minutes per day and parents if you're saying that your child is spending more time than that please reach out to me I understand your child has more going on in physics class and I do not want them to be burned out spending hours of homework at night for physics so please reach out and if that is a concern that you have gray will be using total points assignments that we include B classwork homework like I said earlier homework will be things like notes then also other homework will include Pratt promise we're doing fluid see where we're just getting the extra extra practice quizzes test lab work and then you will have a force in formal lab report one of those play every quarter working assignment that simulate will be subject to a 10% deduction per class periods of your two class periods like that'll be 20 points deduction so let's make sure we're not getting too far behind and in our work do you want to go ahead and get started on purchasing supplies scientific you will need these in a scientific calculator so if you bought a TI-84 for your math classes those were great in this class recommend getting a 3-ring binder with dividers and we'll talk more about my suggested by dividers in class or you can look on the syllabus we are going to using graph paper so please go ahead and purchase some of that and have that ready also online or printer paper be used for Miss class if you have to go and get a glue stick to cuz we'll be going sheets of paper what time practice problems that you can work on and then dry race markers four different colored pens or pencils for the students or my parents will buy books if you're going to buy one I recommend five steps to a five by Greg Jacobs make sure get that one that corresponds with the class you're taking so if you're taking AP Physics 1 make sure you get the 5 steps to a 5 for AP Physics 1 he did write the book for both of them so make sure you pick the correct one for AP Physics see it's one book for mechanics and enm so you're not two different books for calculus based physics or AP Physics C any questions please feel free to reach out to me again on my email and phone number list a little bit earlier I'll look
