Congratulations, Alice Byrns was officially notified yesterday that she has received her Gold Award.

For her project, she created and taught a weekly, 9-session engineering introduction class for 4th and 5th grade students in the Extended School Program at Reeves Rogers Elementary.  Her goal was to generate enthusiasm for engineering to help address the shortage of engineers in Tennessee.  As part of the project she created and published a detailed curriculum so it can be easily taught by anyone in other environments. Additionally, multiple Central students helped during the class time at Reeves Rogers and in doing so earned STEM-focused community service hours.  The class will continue to be held yearly at different locations, ideally with involvement from Central students in science-based clubs/organizations such as SWE and NSHS. Alice did most of her project last year as a sophomore.  Mrs. Hamby was her subject matter project advisor - during the latter part of the project she advised via gmail from Australia. :)
