JAZZ

Here are some cool resources for studying and experiencing jazz!

https://www.pbs.org/kenburns/jazz- This is the PBS home for all things jazz. It includes a link for information about the Ken Burns Documentary on Jazz, which is available for purchase, but there are a variety of short videos from the documentary that document the birth and evolution of jazz, and some fantastic videos of the some of the jazz greats performing in their prime. There are also a variety of video and text resources to answer all your jazz questions!

https://www.jazzinamerica.org/Home- This is the link to the Thelonius Monk Institute for Jazz. There are great videos of jazz performances and a really cool series of videos with jazz piano great Herbie Hancock (highly recommended!)

https://jazzatlincolncenter.squarespace.com/- The home of the premiere American jazz organization: Jazz at the Lincoln Center. Led by Jazz supserstar Wynton Marsalis, this is the home of all things jazz in America. This site includes a lot of written sources, and also consistently uploads full concerts from Lincoln Center weekly. This is the perfect place to start for someone just looking to SEE jazz in America, from yesterday and today.

https://www.kamasiwashington.com/live-performances- Kamasi Washington is one of my personal favorite jazz performers that are currently making music in America.  He has played with popular musicians including Flying Lotus, Thundercat, and Kendrick Lamar (Washington played sax on Kendrick's multiple Grammy winning and critic favorite "To Pimp a Butterfly). Kamasi has a variety of live performances up on his site for your viewing pleasure.  I would especially suggest the live performance of "The Epic" on NPR (it can be found about halfway down the page). It is over 3 hours, but he has some fantastic musicians (including Thundercat on Electric Bass), and each takes extended, prolific solos.
