Classwork:

1) Students discussed the following: class expectations, Brooks' Web Page, Brooks' Web Calendar, and the "Media Sources of Record" document on Mr. Brooks' U.S. Government page.

2) Students defined government, politics, and public policy.

3) Next, students began reading/explicating/discussing Thomas Jefferson's "Declaration of Independence". 

4) Finally, students defined and identified examples (in the "Declaration of Independence") of the following terms:

-limited government, natural rights, popular sovereignty, republicanism, and the social contract.



Homework:

Read a synopsis of Roe v Wade (1973), which is one of our 15 "must-know" cases in the A.P. U.S. Government curriculum. Also, read a synopsis of Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization (2022).

Write down and answer the following questions. Make sure you write your answers in complete sentences. 

1) What was the decision in the case?
2) Why was/is  the decision  significant?
3) What was the Supreme Courts Constitutional rationale for its decision?

Homework:

Locate and read a reputable news source  (see Brooks' list "Media Sources of Record") on a major event or situation in each of the following countries: Great Britain, China, and Russia. 

Write and answer the following questions (write in complete sentences!!!): 

1) Identify and describe a situation or event.
2) What caused the situation or event?
3) Describe what the government in the country can do to respond efficaciously to the situation or event.
