High School

 

High School Counselors provide programs and services to help the student achieve success in school. During these adolescent years, students are evaluating their strengths, skills, and abilities. The following services are provided to our students through Advisory group sessions, high school courses and individual counseling meetings:

• Organizational, study and test-taking skills
• Post-secondary planning and application process
• Career planning and goal setting
• Education in understanding self and others
• Coping strategies
• Peer relationships and effective social skills
• Communication, problem-solving, decision-making, conflict resolution
  and study skills
• Career awareness and the world of work
• Academic plans
• Career plans
• Problem solving
• Education in understanding of self, including strengths and weaknesses

 

 ANNOUNCEMENTS

The Counseling Department will be scheduling current in-person juniors for their senior year February 2-8. (In-person students, please bring your laptop to your appointment). Juniors who are distance learners will schedule February 10-16.This time period is only for rising seniors.  Info. and dates regarding other grades will be sent in the weeks to come.

As you know the College Board has made several changes to the AP program last year.  Full year and fall classes had to register and order exams last fall.  It is now time to order semester 2 classes.  Students that are currently enrolled in AP Gov’t, AP Macroeconomics or AP Microeconomics will need to join their class through their MyAP account.  They will also need to pay for the exam if they have not already done so.  The cost of the exam is $95.  Students will take the registration form and payment to Mrs. Hogue in attendance.  The deadline to submit your payment is February 26th.

The American Legion Girls State is a citizenship program offered to Junior girls. It is one of the most highly regarded programs in the nation. Any Junior girl who is interested in attending Girls State this year, needs to see Mrs. Gerhart in Guidance. A resume and essay will need to be complete by February 22nd. Please see or email Mrs. Gerhart for more details.
 
Tennessee Boys State is among the most respected and selective educational programs of government instruction for high school students. This year it will be held virtually May 25th through May 29th. Any Junior boy who is interested in attending TN Boys State this year, needs to see Mrs. Gerhart in Guidance. A resume and essay will need to be complete by March 24th. Please see or email Mrs. Gerhart for more details.
