If you are a rising junior or senior who has considered taking Intro to GIS, or one with no idea what it is, Coach Burns would like to encourage you to consider signing up for it next year. There is a video on his home page that shows many of the cool skills you can learn in the class. And here are a few quotes from former CMS students now involved in the field...

"I work for a real estate attorney, and I analyze GIS all the time for a variety of reasons. Mainly, I plot out acreage to make sure people are conveying and describing the right properties, but there are other things I look at." Nathan Smith, C/O 2017

"At TDOT we used GIS to analyze pedestrian safety by looking at crash rates on roads, speed limits, sidewalks, etc. In Utah I've been working on a cool project building an environmental dashboard for the public. Anyone can explore the rainfall, snowpack, temperature, etc existing in the mountains outside Salt Lake. On the law side, my lab has used GIS to look at underrepresented areas in terms of public defendants so we can see where people have limited access to attorneys." Eric Goodwin, C/O 2016

"Because of GIS, I have been able to set myself apart from others in my field of archaeology. I have the ability to answer questions with a visual and spatial perspective. There are a lot of jobs in many different fields who look for people who know GIS."" Lindsey Bouldin, C/O 2018

Contact Coach Burns with any questions, go to his website to read more quotes like these, or see your guidance counselor to schedule the class.
