DECA members will be selling World's Finest Chocolate bars for $1.00 on Tuesday, November 19, 2024 through Friday, November 22, 2024. Almond, dark/milk chocolate, caramel, crisp and wafer will be the featured selections. Ms. Crawley-Harrison will have candy for sale in Room 210 as well.
A francophone country/territory is one in which French is an official, primary, or secondary language. As mentioned earlier this week, these are scattered across 5 continents, excluding Antarctica and Oceania. While they may share a language history due to colonialism and protectionism, they are culturally, historically, and biologically diverse places.
In the Americas, Quebec is a territory that came under French influence as early as the 1500s.The French departments or territories of Guadaloupe (Gwadaloop) and Martinique in the Caribbean and French Guyana in South America are extensions of France and use the euro and vote in French elections, much like the relationship of Puerto Rico to The USA, yet retain their Caribbean and south American culture as well.
Tahiti and Bora Bora are part of the collective of French Polynesia, between Hawaii and Australia, that maintain their Polynesian culture and heritage.
French was an official in Loas, Vietnam and Cambodia in the 19th and early 20th centuries. It was the language spoken by South Vietnamese government and military officials during the Vietnam War.
The former colonies of Benin and Cameroon in central Africa are known for their art- masks and figures - that have been dispersed to museums around the world and are starting to make their way back home. Senegal, with it’s modern and vibrant capitol of Dakar, was the largest port for the middle passage slave trade from Africa to the Americas. The democratic republic of Congo is home to populations of endangered chimps and gorillas. The eastern island of Madagascar is home to animals that are found nowhere else in the world, like lemurs.

The middle school track and field team will begin the season with a parent meeting on Wednesday, November 20th at 6pm in the senior cafeteria. Parents should enter on the middle school drop-off side. See Coach J. Burns in room 132 for information.
HS Cheer will sell Smoothies at lunch today! They are $6.50 if you'd like one.
HS Cheer is selling sweatshirts and T-shirts with “Tigers” in Vandy gold on a pennant flag. These can be worn at all school events because they aren’t affiliated with any team. They will be delivered before Christmas. You may purchase them on School cash online, from a High School cheerleader, or grab an order form from Mrs. Griggs in room 335 by December 6th.

The Middle School Lady Tigers lost a heartbreaker last night in double overtime to Whitworth Buchanan by a score of 30-33. Linley Lapointe led all scorers with 11. Sadie Craig and Elizabeth Hamilton had 7 each Darcy Thomas and Maddy Strickland rounded out the scoring with 2 each.
There will be an informational meeting for those interested in high school tennis this Thursday, November 21 at 6pm in the senior cafeteria. Please enter through the college corner entrance.
Are you interested in auditioning for this year's variety show? Any middle or high school student who would like to submit an audition recording should go follow the link on the Student Council webpage to get to the Padlets for submissions. There are separate Padlets for middle and high schoolers, and all students will need to make sure to fill out the linked Microsoft Form to finish their submission.
