*UChicago will be hosting a public information session for the Nashville metro area at the Green Hills Library branch on Saturday, October 6 at 3pm. If any students are interested in learning more about UChicago, the registration link is attached here: https://prospects.uchicago.edu/register/?id=707c8518-fd54-4fa0-8939-5cf1f26a1868. We will post this to the Guidance webpage later this week.

 

*Attention all students:

On Friday this week, you will be voting in a mock election for three exciting races here in Tennessee: Governor, US Senate, and US House of Representatives. Please take some time to review the candidates and their positions so you can make an informed decision. See your social studies teacher for details.

Special note: Tuesday night on NewsChannel 5 at 6:00pm, the two US Senate candidates will square off in a highly anticipated debate. This Senate seat is garnering national attention so you won’t want to miss this debate!

 

*High School Students who are in a Band, Orchestra or Choir class are eligible to audition for the Madrigal Singers A Capella group.  Auditions will take place after school this Friday and the Monday after fall break.  Signups and audition forms are outside the choir room.  See Mr. Brenner if you have any questions.

*Service Opportunities*

 

Parks and Recreation will have an event called the Barfield Bash on October 19th & 20th.  They need volunteers starting at 4pm on both days.  Please contact Meagan Bass at [email protected], for further questions.

 

*The Tennessee State Veterans Home is having the Harvest Festival, October 25th, from 5-7pm, and Ms. Jill Wright is needing some assistants to help with the festival while earning community service hours. Please contact Ms. Wright at [email protected] if you are interested.

 

* If you are interested in volunteering and earning service hours, The Alzheimers Walk to End Alzheimers is November 10th.  It will take place at the Dean Hayes Soccer and Track Stadium on the MTSU campus and will begin at 8:00am.  You may log up to 8 hours of service since the set up will begin at 6:00am.  If you are interested, please contact Michelle Thomas at 615-429-8633 or at [email protected]

 

*Juniors and Seniors with a 3.0 overall GPA and a 3.0 Social Sciences GPA who are interested in History, National History day, and trips to see Legislative session should check out the Rho Kappa National History Honors Society.  We have beautiful blue and white chords for members in good standing and lots of fun at our meetings.  The application and more information are available on Dr. Edge’s website. Applications along with the applicable teacher recommendations will be due to Dr. Edge in room 204 soon after we return from Fall break.

 

*Students, if you have misplaced items like backpacks, water bottles, textbooks, jackets, etc., please go to the top of the staircase in College Corner and see if you can find your item.

Front Office has some keys, watches, and prescription eye glasses that have been turned in over the past few months as well.  Stop by and see if they have what you are missing.

 

*The boys and girls bowling teams kicked off their seasons this week. Tuesday both teams dropped matches to a tough Stewarts Creek team. Georgia Touchton bowled a team high 159 for the girls and Bennett Neu bowled a team high 226 for the boys. Matthew Fleischman and Nathienal Carter picked up their
