Beginning Strings is for students with no prior playing experience.
Dear Beginning Strings Students and Families,
Good afternoon! I’m so excited to meet you all soon and to begin this musical journey together. It’s a true privilege to teach students how to play a stringed instrument, and I look forward to helping each of you grow in skill and confidence.
A full syllabus and more details will be coming shortly, but I wanted to send a few important notes ahead of time:
Please do not purchase or rent an instrument yet.

During the first week of class, I will introduce each of the instruments—violin, viola, cello, and double bass. After that, students will complete an instrument preference form where they’ll rank their top three choices. I do my best to assign students to one of their top choices, usually their first or second.
To have a well-balanced and successful string orchestra, we need a variety of instruments. This instrument placement process helps ensure that we can build an ensemble that sounds great—just as Mrs. Way-Kiani did in previous years.
Important Note for Parents:
It’s essential that each student has access to a quality instrument to practice on at home. Please do not purchase or rent an instrument online or from just any music store. I highly recommend Williams Fine Violins (204 Donelson Pike, Nashville) for all rentals and purchases. They specialize in string instruments, provide excellent customer service, and will ensure your child gets the correct size and proper setup. Bonus: all rental payments from the first year can be applied toward a purchase if desired.
