MS Cross Country

A little bit about CMS middle school cross-country...

The sport is a distance-running sport. Athletes run on grass, gravel, dirt, mud, and any other terrain that is available. The standard race distance is 2 miles. It's not a sport with a large fan base, but the friendships that you'll develop throughout the season are golden.
For those who make the team, expect to practice 2x per week beginning the first full week of July. Once school begins, the team will practice Mondays through Thursdays from 3:00-4:30pm. Most races are held on Saturday mornings. The racing season goes from the third week of August to the first weekend of fall break. Consider these time commitments and potential conflicts as you decide what you want to pursue athletically.

Tryout information for the 2026 will be posted soon. Expect the preferred tryout to be held on our final day of school, May 29, 2026. For those who cannot attend the first tryout, expect a last-chance tryout to be held Monday, July 6.
Tryout standards to be on the team:
Boys must complete 1.5 miles in 13:53 or less.
Girls must finish the same distance in 14:38 or less.
(This equates to an expected 9:15/mi and 9:45/mi for boys and girls respectively.
There is an expectation that runners will be committed to working hard and getting faster throughout the season.)
