A little bit about CMS middle school cross-country...

The sport is a distance-running sport. Athletes run on grass, gravel, dirt, mud, and any other terrain that is available. The standard race distance is 2 miles. For most of the season, the team will practice Mondays through Thursdays from 3:00-4:30pm.

It's not a sport with a large fan base, but the friendships that you'll make through the season are golden. At the beginning of the season, we hold a time trial to determine varsity for our first race. The fastest 7 boys and the fastest 7 girls are considered the "varsity" team. After that, each week's top 7 is determined by the best 7 times at the previous race.  ALL runners run at each race, with the exception of the state championships.

Absence policy: If a runner misses a race in which he/she would have been a varsity runner, the next fastest time gets bumped up to the varsity squad and the absentee will automatically run JV at the following race.
